The Health and Fitness Social Network. Healthy Selfie is a mobile app for users to photographically track their body changing throughout their fitness journey.

Hello!

I’m Charlotte, one of the co-founders of Healthy Selfie. First and foremost, I wanted to say how extremely excited we are to launch what we genuinely believe is the ultimate tool to track your fitness journey – whether that be weight loss, weight gain, widening, lengthening, cutting, defining, toning, bulking etc… You get my drift. Some apps track your steps, heartbeat or the number of calories you eat, Healthy Selfie tracks your body shape photographically.

This first blog post is written to give you an idea of why we created this app in the first place. My co-founder, Joe, and I commenced January 2014 feeling lethargic, unhealthy and a little plumper than usual after an extraordinarily indulgent Christmas Break – as I’m sure the vast majority of you are feeling now. It’s a sign of a good time… Don’t fret. With no holidays on the horizon and hence no impending bikini body exposure to panic about, I needed something else to give me some motivation to get in the gym. That motivation came in the form of stripping down to my bra and pants, and taking my first ‘body’ selfie. I was by no means overweight, however by looking at my body objectively, I wasn’t happy with what I saw and I decided I needed to make a change. I started a new fitness programme (German Body Comp training for ladies, for anyone who’s interested), and started eating reasonably healthily – though by no means cutting out treat meals and glasses of wine throughout.

I continued to take photos each week with the intention of comparing them at the end of the month to see whether I’d made any progress. I was also weighing myself concurrently. At the end of a 6-week period, I compared the images with the help of my husband’s Photoshop expertise – an arduous process to say the least. The results were incredible – my body had completely changed – all in complete contradiction to the number on the scales (which had risen as I gained more muscle).

From there on in, we began working on Healthy Selfie. We wanted to create an app that made tracking and comparing your selfies a quick and easy process. By then publishing those photos in a social networking environment, the images become so much more than a self-tracking tool – they become a source of information from which other users can glean ideas and inspiration. Your images become testaments to the efficacy of whatever programme, diet, detox or cleanse you’re pursuing.

We also created the Food Diary functionality. I can’t count how many times I’ve been browsing through IG, found an image that is, quite literally, “#foodporn” with nothing to show me how to make it myself. Nutrition is such a fundamental element of any fitness journey, so we thought it was important to combat this frustration with our app. With every food diary image, you will have the option insert the URL link to where the recipe came from or input the ingredients and method yourself. If, like me, you’re not a nutritional connoisseur, you can now browse for healthy recipe ideas from people who know what they’re talking about and are witnessing incredible results from their particular diet regime. It’s really as simple as that.

So enough of me going on – we hope you love the app as much as we do. I’m currently using the app a little differently and tracking my baby bump up until April, but if you fancy following my journey and (hopefully) swift return to my pre-pregnancy body, make sure to follow me on @charlotte.li. I can’t wait to follow your journeys!
